Northey and Vaudt Support Sanders at Rally

September 28, 2008, Nevada, IA – Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey and State Auditor David Vaudt endorsed Rick Sanders for Story County Supervisor at a “Rally for Rick” hosted at the home of Ray and Marilyn Lounsberry on Lincoln Highway in Nevada on Saturday evening.  A large and enthusiastic crowd came out to show Rick support and to help ensure his bid for office is successful on November 4. 

“I am extremely humbled by the number of people that turned out and with their generosity toward the Sanders Campaign Fund.  And, for our two high profile elected officials to take time to speak on my behalf was thrilling for me and for the many people who took time to rally with us,” said Sanders. 

Both Vaudt and Northey spoke about the importance of a balanced budget and ensuring that an open, balanced discussion takes place at the County level.  Both candidates agreed that Rick is the right person to bring needed change to Story County Government.

David Vaudt addressed the crowd about the necessity to closely tie spending to revenues, the danger of overspending, and his concern for draining reserve funds to cover normal expenses.  He noted that the financial issues we have at the State level also apply to the County level.

Bill Northey spoke on the status of Agriculture in Iowa and his expectations for the upcoming season.  He also addressed the issue of true representation and the advantages of a 5-by-district Supervisor system.     

In his presentation, Sanders provided an assessment about the major issues facing Story County, including details of the $4.5 million budget deficit projected by the current Supervisors.  He also spoke about the necessity of a 5-by-district Supervisor structure to ensure fair representation for all Story County citizens.  Rick’s plan is to change the structure to more closely mirror that of the majority of other large counties in the state of Iowa.
